We “Jos” Want Peace – conflict flares in Jos as 1 dead in suspected Fulani attack

The fragile peace pact signed between the Fulani and their Berom neighbours suffered a setback on Sunday with the alleged beheading of a Berom man by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Security agencies in the state, in conjunction with the Senator, representing the Northern zone, Mr. Gyang Pwajok, have had several peace meetings with the representatives of the two warring groups in the past three weeks with the aim of bringing an end to the spate of killings in the northern senatorial zone, especially in Riyom, Jos South and Barakin Ladi local government areas.

It was gathered that few hours after the peace pact was signed on Saturday, a Berom man who came out of his house to ease himself at about 4:30 am was killed by some gunmen who invaded Gyel in Jos South Local Government Area of the state and beheaded him.

The assailants were said to have disappeared with his head and released several volley of shots into the air to scare away people living within the vicinity from coming out of their houses.

Nobody was said to have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police Public Relation officer, DSP Felicia Anslem, confirmed the unfortunate incident saying the police had commenced investigation into the killing.

She said, “We are aware of the incident, the police have commenced full investigation into the incident, I cannot say anything now because investigation is going on.”
