MTN Group finally sacks MTN Nigeria’s CEO and other management staff

MTN Group SA had officially advised that the Nigerian CEO Mikel Ikpoki and several other top management staff resign. Info as at this morning confirmed the resignations which is yet to be made official.

However, the pending case of 63 permanent staff unlawfully sacked without due Human Resources procedures was adjourned till 9am, Dec 10, 2015 at the National Industrial Court Ikoyi Lagos having reached the trial stage with witnesses cross examined October 2015.

The 63 pioneer staff who had served between 5yrs to 8yrs were unlawfully sacked without notice November 17, 2009 under heavy security presence with over five MTN/CRi Ambulances on standby at the MTN Nig Maritime House Apapa Office while simultaneously others were handed their sack letters across other regions of Nigeria.

MTN Nigeria was later sued November 2013 after the company turned down the January 17, 2013 recommendation of the House Committee on Public Petition – NASS (as contained in Article 11 of its official gazette) to review the sack immediately.

In 2012 the 63 ex staff had proceeded to the NASS for redress as a protection by their fathers land on the ill treatment by a foreign company but MTN representatives at the petition hearing were later in 2012 confirmed sacked by MTN Nigeria for failing to defend the November 2009 unlawful sack.
