Crystal Awards 2014 Gist & Winners as Glamour Meets Grace

Crystal Awards 2014 Gist & Winners as Glamour Meets Grace

| On 28, Jul 2014

The full list of the winners of Crystal Awards 2014 themed “The Take Over” which took place at the Shell hall of MUSON centre, Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday, July 20, 2014.

The Crystal Awards 2014 held on Sunday, July 20, 2014 was a huge success, in spite of the fact that the gospel music award is still in its teething stage. The award celebrates the people behind the upward trend in the gospel music industry. The anchors for this year’s Crystal Awards were carefully chosen; Nollywood beauty, Doris Simeon and upcoming comedy merchant, Grand Komanda emceed the event. Before the event proper started, there was a red carpet session that lasted for hours during which no one was allowed into the auditorium. It got a bit absurd as guests had no choice but to hang around the open space in front of the auditorium, looking like fish out of water. After more than two hours, guests were finally allowed into the hall as the ceremony proper started at 7.17pm, over four hours later than the 3 pm official time stipulated on the invite. Though the event saw little sponsorship from corporate bodies, a sad development in this clime, it still lived up to the occasion. Sultry singer, VIVA, delivered a sonorous rendition of the national anthem and the event kicked off.

Gospel DJ numero uno, DJGosporella dedicated his Best On-Air-Personality Award to Kefee; while award-winning petite singer, Nikki Laoye along with Anny Ibrahim a.k.a Anny Love, evoked memories of the late Kefee when they sang Kokoroko, proving that the singer would be sorely missed on the gospel music terrain as well as the Nigerian music industry at large. Kokoroko established Kefee as more than a gospel singer.

Anointed Performances

One of the highlights of the Crystal Award 2014 was when Frank Edward, Nigeria’s and Africa’s gospel music rave of the moment, gave a high energy performance. The Rocktown Records singer indeed gave a spectacular performance. Other great performances were from Okiki Jesu Fuji and 2nd runner-up of Destiny’s Child reality show, Femi Flames, who thrilled the audience with his hit song, Adanimagbagbe. Waffi comedian and emerging humour merchant, Akpororo lightened the atmosphere at the event. Not many know that the stone-faced talented comedian is also a singer. He has released two singles, one of which is a Niger-Delta rendition of Days Of Elijah, originally composed by Donnie Mcclurkin. Earlier, CHIKA100% delivered a rapturous worship medley, bringing the audience to their feet and lifting up their hands in worship.

Unexpected Marriage Proposal

CEO of Praise World Radio, an online Christian radio station, Tola Omoniyi who was presented an award with his girlfriend, Mabel, astonished the audience when, after complimenting the gorgeously dressed lady,   he got down on one knee and proposed to her, to the awe and admiration of all present.

Roll Call

A good number of gospel artistes and distinguished personalities graced the second edition of Crystal Awards. They include musicians from the old school and the present generation. Pastor J.A Adelakun of AYEWA Singers, famous for various evergreen songs like Amona Tete Mabo, came with his wife, Clara Adelakun. Reggae veteran, Righteousman and his wife also graced the award night. Other singers are Obiwon, Kenny K’Ore, Mike Abdul, Frank Edwards, Nosa, Wole Oni, Tehila Crew, Sabina, Nikky’s husband, Alexander Chibuzor Oturu, Linda Etuk-Udoh, Akin Alabi, Provabs to name a few.

Twenty-four award categories were up for grabs as PITA won the artiste of the year and Preye emerged as the new kid on the block.
