Cameroon are through to a sixth FIFA World Cup appearance in the last seven qualifiers after securing a 4-1 victory over Tunisia in Yaoundé on Sunday afternoon.

A brace from Jean Makoun was complemented by one goal each from Pierre Webo and Benjamin Moukandjo as the Indomitable Lions booked their place in Brazil 2014 slated for next summer.

The West Africans went into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Rades last month, and were wary of their opponents’ plot, who came out to share the spoil (most favourably with one or two goals).

With the call for unity among the Cameroon internationals heeded to, the hosts were the dominant side all through the 90 minutes, ensuring they become the third African nation to reach the 2014 finals.

Fenerbahce striker Webo opened scoring four minutes into the encounter with a cool finish from close range.

Moukandjo doubled the lead with a fine individual effort, but the home fans were given a scare when Ahmed Akaichi pulled one back for Tunisia six minutes after the interval.

Rudd Krol’s men began to dictate proceedings following their goal, and had a claim for a penalty turned down on the hour mark after Assou-Ekotto’s clumsy challenge on Fakhreddine Ben Youssef.

Six minutes later, former Aston Villa player Makoun repositioned Coach Volker Finke’s men back into safety zone, thanks to Assou-Ekotto’s superb delivery which the former headed home to the delight of the fans.

Four minutes from time, Makoun finished off the qualification job by scoring his second of the second-half and sending the capacity crowd at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde into wild celebration. He slotted into an empty net after Maxim Choupo-Moting had hit the woodwork.
