BRYMO VS CHOCOLATE CITY – Legal tussle continues!!!

| On 26, Feb 2014

The ongoing legal tussle between singer, Brymo and his estranged label, Chocolate City scheduled for hearing today has been adjourned again.

Sitting at the Federal High Court today in Ikoyi Lagos, the presiding judge, Justice Buba I.N adjourned the hearing till Tuesday March 4, 2014 sighting reasons of lack of comportment and breach of court rules by the legal counsel of both the plaintiff and defendant.

In the court hearing, Brymo was represented by his lawyer, Ms. Nike Olagbede while Chocolate City was represented by T.O Lawal and C.O Maduboko respectively.

According to Justice Buba in his reasons for the adjournment, ‘the legal counsels failed to portray themselves according to the stipulations of the court acts and acted in court with complete disregard to the court regulations.

Hence, the need for the adjournment of the case till March 4, 2014 for both parties to comport themselves and return to court for hearing’.

Prior to the adjournment of the case, trouble ensued between Brymo’s legal representative, Ms. Nike Olagbede and Chocolate City’s counsel, T.O Lawal for accusations directed at the former by the latter. The development, led to the use of derogatory words between the two learned counsels during a court session which prompted the court to go on an unannounced break during the first session.

The break lasted for about 27 minutes before Justice Buba returned to his seat as the presiding judge but didn’t fail to mention the disruption of court activities by the legal counsels adding that they might be charged and punished for contempt.

Speaking after the adjournment, Brymo’s manager, Lanre Lawal revealed his discontent with the approach of Chocolate City’s lawyer, T.O Lawal towards the case. ‘I know from the beginning that his aim was to disrupt proceedings and ensure the case is adjourned till another date. That was why he instigated such acts in open court and pointed accusing fingers to what isn’t true’.

Also, no Chocolate City representative apart from the lawyers were identified in court and efforts to get the lawyers comment on the issue proved futile.

Nonetheless, the court session that began at 11:14 am and lasted till around 12:48 pm still couldn’t resolve the ongoing tussle between the erring factions. The case is however adjourned for hearing on Tuesday March 4, 2013.
