Breaking: Nigeria Music industry mourns as veteran dancehall megastar; “Father-U-Turn” is announced dead

| On 17, Nov 2013

Report reaching us and spreading like wild fire in the last few hours is that veteran artist and Okokomaiko based dance hall mega star; Father-U-Turn is dead.

Its however confirmed from some quarters as authentic as cause of death is unknown.

Femi Sylvester Mayomi, a.k.a. Father U-Turn, was once the rave of the moment as far as Galala, a brand of ghetto music, was concerned.

Father-U-Turn is fondly remembered for the positive energy he brought alongside the likes of Nico Gravity, Daddy Showkey, Daddy Fresh, Baba Fryo, Healing Child and many more in the mid 90′s when dancehall music and ragga reigned supreme on the airwaves, our living rooms and clubs.

Many of such artists as mentioned above had their songs as “sing along” with awesome, catchy and humorous lyrics, dance steps and story lines. They represented an amazing generation born and bred in the most remote suburbs of Lagos State Nigeria.

The success of these uniquely blessed Nigerian artists gave rise to other youngsters such as Marvelous Benjy, Blackface (formerly of Plantashun Boiz), Danfo Drivers, African China and many more.

Their songs gave birth also to Dance Steps such as Swor, Galala, Alanta to mention but a few.

Present day Nigeria now has various hoods who had since produced those artists who represents their neighbourhood to the fullest doing what is believed to be original street music. Nigeria can now boast of the likes of the newest generation such as; Terry G, Timaya, Patoranking, Zee World and many more spread across the Nation.

Father-U-Turn at a very tender age (as a teen) had blessed the Nigerian Music Industry with his voice, music and dance.

We are speechless at this news/report at Konk Naija Music and we hope its only a dream or rumour.

We can’t but imagine the feelings and mood out there at Okokomaiko and Íts environ§ if this story is real. We can’t but imagine the reaction of family members, colleagues and fans.

We will always remember his signature voice/payline: Hehn! Hehn!! Hehn!!! and Mukenken! mukenken!!

From the archive is one of his popular interviews after he went underground for few years; Bayowa Cheated Me. Stole My Girlfriend
