Through their Rookie of the Month contest and their B.O.S.S. and Sage interviews, Vanguard Spark, the youth and empowerment arm of Vanguard Media Limited (publishers of Vanguard Newspaper), has been empowering Nigeria’s teeming youth population for the past five months.

While also being a platform where young people freely express themselves, Vanguard Spark, through its interviews, shares success stories of young and old Nigerians. The young ones are called “B.O.S.S.” while the older ones are called “Sage.” The primary aim of the interviews is to empower up-and-coming achievers in various spheres of life through the “testimonies” and stories of predecessors across all walks of life. At the end of each interview, the interviewee gives The Spark, which is an incentive to empower a young Nigerian to do something positive and great. This incentive varies from person to the person.

In August 2014, Olamide Orefeko, a fashion designer and student of Babcock University, was empowered with N100,000 by the  Lagos state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Ben Akabueze. In September 2014, Delords Austin Amuzie, an internet marketer and CEO of Delords Media, got a free workspace in Lekki Phase 1 and internet for six months, courtesy of the serial Techpreneur and former GM of HITV, Edmund Olotu. In October, Yusuf Onabekun received N90,000 in business consulting from Emeka Azinge, CEO of Emedith Consulting. Also in October 2014, Oluwamitosin Tobun Hannah, a creative blogger and Computer Science student at Taraba State University, received a 3-months paid internship courtesy of Illyrmz’s company. In November 2014, Clem Ogus was empowered with N200,000 by Chief Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, CEO of Chisco Group. Adiaga Samuel was the Rookie of the Month of December and won a 3-months paid internship, courtesy of Sam Uduma, co-founder of SuperGeeks Services and Solutions.

This January, Vanguard Spark, through Fliptyce, the superstar music producer of many hit songs including P-Square’s “Chop my Money”, is giving a song recording deal, for any talented artiste. You can read his interview HERE.
