UK Group Urges Nigerians to Support APC

UK Group Urges Nigerians to Support APC

| On 31, Oct 2014

Disturbed by the continuous dwindling fortunes of Nigeria despite its huge human and natural resources, a group of Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom has opted for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) as the preferred political party to control government at the centre.

The campaign group, which vowed to mobilise Nigerians abroad to support the APC, in a press statement signed by the duo of Kingsley Ogbonda and Ladi Vera-Cruz, who are the

officers in charge of Planning and Communication and Liaison and Canvassing respectively, noted that the reason for pitching tent with the APC is because the PDP has not impacted significantly on Nigerian even with its control of power since 1999.

“Having decided that Nigeria needs an urgent change, as a campaign group, we shall be canvassing and mobilising our Diaspora constituency and international support for APC once its sellable presidential candidate is known,” part of the statement reads.

Their argument is that  since the present democratic journey started in Nigeria in 1999, the PDP has been in power at the centre with little to show for it.

“The party has also in these years controlled over two-third of the states’ government and their legislature. Despite its enormous power spread and national resources at its disposal, the party has not seriously tackled any of the big challenges that the country is locked in.

“There is no aspect of Nigeria’s public live that have noticed significant improvements under PDP. The educational system continues to churn out ill-educated and unemployable graduates. The hospitals remain miserably ill-equipped. Roads and transport system remain in dilapidated condition. The security of lives and properties of citizens continues to elude the PDP government as demonstrated by the activities of Boko Haram and kidnappers. All public institutions of the state, including the judiciary are stripped of their powers, staffed with the incorrigibly corrupt and rendered useless.

“In return, Nigerians have witnessed an unlimited stealing of public assets, ineptitude and salacious details of debauchery in high places. The shameless exploitation of the nation’s fault lines of religion and ethnicity has been the modus operandi of the (PDP) government.

“The concept of law and order for PDP are completely lost. Constitutional provisions are treated as null and void as the financially-induced Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) campaigned with reckless abandon. Paraphrasing Pius Adesanmi of Sahara Reporters, the world now regard the orangutans and meerkats (bush animals) as having better understanding of the utility of rules (order) than PDP and their acolytes. Nigeria, through official imbecility continues to provide alibi to the Europeans, Arabs and Asian racists for their utter contempt of all Africans, of which it is the largest single entity. We have had enough of it, and it is time for change,” the group stated.

In declaring support for the APC and tagging it as the only viable alternative to saving the country from total collapse, the UK group which called to Nigerians to support the APC, said “

Even if APC may not be the most ideal alternative, it is the best we have in our circumstances to demonstrate to the world that we are keen in developing and strengthening our democracy.”
