My recent jaunt in Lagos was fun and best of all I got to catch up with CEO of Slucks Media and mull over media, entertainment and to find out a little bit more about Slucks….here’s what he had to say.

Who are you and where in the world are you primarily based and where are you located right now?

I am Temitope Benson, Co-founder and C.O.O (Chief Operating Officer) Slucks Media Limited. I am an entrepreneur, computer scientist and a certified EC-Council member. I am currently based in Lagos, Nigeria however my responsibility with my company takes me way beyond my base.

What do you do, how would you describe your presence in the industry, what’s your mission?

Presently I manage Slucks Media Ltd operation in Nigeria, United Kingdom and India with an extension of our baby company I AM A SLUCKER which has a huge presence in USA and Nigeria.
I will just focus on I AM A SLUCKER on this interview;
Our mission as a media company is to create a positive oriented social movement amongst the youth. Although we have had our own share of cynicism based on the name “SLUCKER” however we chose to use that as it simply means “A loving way to refer to friend”.
We want to create a positive mental attitude amongst the youth with our media content and our social media activities with a vision to create a better society we all live in. A society that can produce the next Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Mandela and so on.
Professionally we have made our mark on the industry so far, we are just in the phase of creating more awareness about what we do.

How long have you been doing this?

We started implementing our media ideas around September 2009, I hope that is correct because I am really bad at keeping dates. The funny aspect was that we never intended to start up “I AM A SLUCKER” as a company but with over 28,000 members alone on Facebook we started giving it a thought and here we are today with an amazing platform that translate all our ideas into visual  by creating www.iamaslucker.com

Notable moments in your career?

 I remember I did an interview with a young fashion designer called “Blaise” you can read the interview on our website. Anyways after we posted the interview on our former blog site www.slucksblog.com and share it on our social media platform. I got a message from “Blaise” and he said something that really touched me. He said “My Dad saw the interview and he said he was very proud of me, Thank you for making him happy” Gosh that really touched me, it gave me a sense of fulfillment and I was happy I could touch someone’s life positively.

What’s the best and worst part of what you do?

Let me start with the worst part, ”You hardly sleep or go out” honestly I am kind of weird when I tell my friends I have never seen the inside of a club or tell them I have had only a few hours of sleep this week. It is really hard to keep up however with time I will find the hands of worthy managers I can delegate responsibilities to so I can develop my personal life back. Well the good aspect is what motivates me to stay up all night and that is the passion for what I do. I love social media, entertainment or web related stuffs. I think I can consider myself a high class professional in this industry. It comes easy and I just smile through it. Another interesting thing is what people who haven’t met me yet think of me. They see my work, read our contents and they have this perception that I am one clever genius, Lol. I really like living that kind of life it makes me feel special although I am no clever than my team of administrators and management who through their help I get this contents out daily.

A little about you?

I am a very reserved person, I love hanging out with my friends on weekends and sure we are either out on the beach or home playing Fifa. I love music and I take my time to manage a few artist who will like my professional help in structuring their musical career. I don’t have a favorite color, food or hangout spot. I am the first son and I got a kid sister and that makes us a family of 4.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years

 It is really hard to tell as the wind of business might take me down directions I never vision I will enroute above all I see myself having chains of successful businesses and spending time teaching and motivating others to do the same. Let’s just say I want to aspire to follow Richard Branson’s leadership footsteps.

 

What do you do for relaxing/fun/chilling out?

I play Fifa and I watch Manchester United Matches cos I am a true fan.. Shout out to RVP, Rooney, Chichi and Kagawa.

 

What advice do you have for others inspired by you?

I am going to get a lot of shot for this but I will say it anyways “QUIT”. Oh yes I just said it “QUIT” trying to be successful.
Ok, please don’t get outraged, shall we look at it from a different perspective. Truth is everyone wants to be successful however not everyone is ready to pay the price that comes with it. The reason I said quit is so I can save you a lot of stress and energy wasting exercises but if you have the burning fire in you and against all odds you want to stand tall in this industry then you have to prove me wrong and make your point. Just so you know, I was told the same thing too when I had these wonderful ideas on social media, even my friends talked me down on it. Just because I refused to back down, today they have advisory roles they play in the company. Well I give them appointment dates for meetings and trust me they will be the first to read this very interview. It is funny but they are my number 1 fans now and I can freely call on them for any assistance what so ever. I am only sparkling something inside of you just so you get mad enough to succeed with your whatever dreams you have in mind.

Message for your fans, haters,critics

For our fans out there, please keep supporting us and go all out to visit the website daily/share our media content on social media. Please send in your suggestions and complaints to  us though on a serious note… and I will address all of them. I want to know how we can serve you better. As for critics’, I see you as a very important aspect of the society and I am very open to criticism cos it is the only way I can get undiluted remarks for work done.
