The Nigerian Army has denied issuing a letter, which has since gone viral, warning Nigerian celebrities against wearing the army camouflage in videos, photo-shoots and at concerts.
The Army spokesman, Brigadier General Olajide Laleye, faulted the letter in a chat with Premium Times, but noted that it’s a crime for civilians to wear the Army camouflage.
“The letter isn’t from the Army and I am not aware if we wrote any. But there is a law which prohibits all civilians from wearing the Army camouflage and this law binds the celebrities too,” Laleye said.
He however said that celebrities who desire to wear the uniform should seek for permission and it will be granted, citing Daddy Showkey as the only celebrity who ever applied for permission to wear the Army camouflage
The Brigadier confirmed that wearing the Camou without permission is wrong and punishable.
