At the Nigerian National Awards held September 29, 2014 in Abuja, Nigeria.

President Goodluck Jonathan places designer of national flag on lifetime salary.

The Nigerian President orders  Life Salary for the designer of the Nigerian Flag; Pa Micheal Akinkunmi while he honours three others with houses in Abuja.

The Presidential order was given during the presentation ceremony of the National Honours Awards which held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja on Monday.

The President while giving the express approval for the placement of Pa Akinkunmi on a lifetime salary said his salary should be equivalent of a Senior Special Adviser.

What is the salary of a Senior Special Adviser alongside other numerous allowances and convoys of official cars? Guess the Presidency need clarify this to Nigerians in the spirit of transparency.

Pa Akinkunmi was however honored with the long overdue Officer of Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) award. This man designed our National Identity, our pride as a people, a flag that flies freely outside all Nigerian embassies world wide and the AU, UN headquarters.

A flag that Nigerians and lovers of Nigeria wave with pride at international competitions and hoisted at medal presentations at international games and many other World events yet lived all his life not catered to while politicians who fed fat from free education and treasury loot all their lives and the Military regime swim in affluence daily while poverty reigns supreme in the land

On October 1, 1960 the Union Jack was lowered and the creativity of Pa Akinkunmi hoisted in its place. The Green and White flag flew with honour ushering in a New Nigeria. A Nigeria of our dream and pride of Africa and the black race. People danced, sang and loved the feel of freedom. A feel of being independent.

Apart from the competition prize money of 100 Pounds given to Pa Akinkunmi at the time of the competition in 1960; he has not been honored in any way by successive Nigerian governments except the painting of his Abeokuta, Ogun State house in the colour green by the Ibrahim Babangida regime, some corporate organizations and Individuals who had always catered to him and his household.
