“Let’s Build an industry where hard work is being appreciated” – Angel Tee [@RealAngeltee ]

Angel Tee is based in Dublin. A Nigerian artist who has a different perspective on the Nigerian Music Industry as it affects artists. In this interview she talks about her music and her future expectation. She however did not shy away from that which affects the Industry; Hard work MUST be appreciated…………

Enjoy the chit-chat with her below

Can we meet you?

I’m Angel Tina Ekpunobi known as Angel Tee from Anambra State. A Dublin based Nigerian artist.

When did you know it was music for you?

I grew up listening to the likes of Janet Jackson and Madonna. However, also singing along to their songs helped me  discover my true passion for music over time; at that point it obvious that I had to do music. Professionally, I started as a back-up for a couple of artists ; featured in some music videos before I decided to focus on my music career.

Describe your style of music;

Well… my style of music is a mixture of pop and highlife. But generally I can not be put in a box. Oh! (laughs)

What else would you be doing if you didn’t venture into music:

I wouldn’t see myself doing anything else besides music but if I don’t have a choice then I will definitely make a statement in the world of fashion.

If you have your way, what would you like to change about the entertainment industry?

As much as I would readily say we are making tremendous progress, I think it’s high time we start to consider proper structure for our industry, where the major stake holders work sincerely with support from the Government to give people with intellectual materials a future…..you know what I mean? Lets stop the games Music is serious business. Let’s Build an industry where  hard work is being appreciated

How do you combine being a mother and an artist based in Dublin?

When it is passion things just fall in place with the required drive and self discipline but most importantly God has been faithful with his sufficient Grace to make a difference irrespective of the usual challenges I have been able to manage both well enough.

Describe your typical day?

I Pray once I’m up, do my Morning exercise, make sure my family is good to go…(laughs)…then get ready for work.

Any regrets?

No regrets, every challenge has always been a stepping stone to the next level.

From your perspective, what are the major challenges in the industry apart from funds?

Honestly, so much work is expected to be put in place for your materials to be out there and we as artist know we can’t do these all by ourselves but bringing together an effective and trustworthy team is 80 % the challenge since almost everybody is trying to be unnecessarily smart. Hence, we need to work twice as hard to get our materials out there also not forgetting to be the expected brand at the same time.

Would you say there is unity in the industry?

I won’t say that per say, everybody seems to have their own clique but once you are able to build that content everybody wants to be associated with then it looks like unity but in all it can still get better…you know? (laughs)

Will you support your daughter to do music if she wants to?

Why not? I will support her in anything she wants to do, as a matter of facts; she’s already building a career in modelling.

Advice to those considering music:

Follow your dreams, Be original, Be yourself and don’t waste your time thinking about the challenges alone

One word for your fans:

Just one word?*winks.. I’d like to say three words to my fans.. “I love y’all”..(laughs)
