The biggest wedding of the year is about to commence, so we explore some of the biggest rumours
When Kanye West got down on one knee last October with a $1.6 million engagement ring, we didn’t think it could get more extravagant. He rented out an entire baseball field for Kim Kardashian for the proposal, but if the rumours are anything to go by this wedding will top all of that.
Kim and Kanye are the ultimate power couple of the moment and as money isn’t an issue, they are pulling out all the stops.
The location
The date of the wedding looks to be 24 May, set against the scenic backdrop of Paris. It corresponds with the last weekend of The Cannes Film Festival and Kanye has said he wants people to miss that event and attend their wedding instead.
The dress
Kim is reportedly going to be wearing three gowns during the day. Although the design of the dress is still a mystery, Kim met with Alexander McQueen Creative Director Sarah Burton, who designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, for her recent Vogue cover and it is known that Kim is a fan of Kate’s style. Could this be a clue as to what her dress will look like?
The bridesmaids
Apparently Kim has one name at the top of her bridesmaids wish list and sadly she was rejected. According to reports, she asked Beyoncé, who is married to Kanye’s close friend Jay Z, to be a bridesmaid. However the singer is said to have refused immediately.
The bridesmaids
When she married Kris Humphries her four sisters – Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie – made up the main bridal party, and it’s safe to assume that will be the case this time round. As for their dresses, Kim’s future husband has reportedly already turned down three or four bridesmaid designs and wants Victoria Beckham to create the dresses for his soon-to-be sisters-in-law.
Diet
After having her daughter North last year, Kim lost 50lb in a short space of time, but in preparation for the ceremony she has apparently gone on the high protein Atkins diet to lose another five pounds.
The guest list
With his wedding planner head back on, 36-year-old Kanye has reportedly given his assistants a 600-strong guest list, which includes Jay Z, Beyoncé and Jamie Foxx. The list was leaked at the start of April and the couple are aiming high with additional A-list names including Will Smith and Ryan Seacrest.
Kim apparently wants it to be an intimate day with just family and close friends. Her close celebrity friends are the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie. We want to be part of that friendship group!
Famous guests won’t receive any special treatment though, not even Oprah Winfrey who is also apparently on the guest list. According to The Sun, guests will have to go through extensive security and “mobile devices will be held at a secure location and if someone needs to use theirs during the wedding, accommodations will be made, but a long way away from the festivities”.
Although they have invited lots of celebrities it appears they have had more rejections than RSVPs. It is reported that stars such as Jared Leto, Jonah Hill, Anna Wintour and the Obamas are among the many to decline their invitations.
The venue
For those that do show it will be an amazing experience judging by the $75,000 they’re meant to be spending on each person. Kimye are said to have hired the 199-room Trianon Palace Versailles fHotel for their guests.
The transportation
Kanye has also hired a fleet of private jets to fly guests to the wedding, according to reports
The goodie bags
According to sources: “Guests will be greeted with goodie bags containing bottles of Bollinger champagne, Creme de la Mer products, handmade souvenir trinkets with Kim and Kanye’s initials etched in Swarovski crystals, bottles of scent from local perfumeries and vouchers for treatments at the hotel spa.”
The invitations
There is yet to be a sneak peek at what the invitations will look like, but a source told Grazia magazine: “Kim and Kanye wanted the invites to be as lavish as possible and commissioned a couture designer to create gold silk boxes containing a photo album of their fairy-tale romance and a silk invite etched in real gold leaf with a clasp of natural pearls.”
The gifts
Talking to Women’s Wear Daily, designer Karl Lagerfeld had a fashionable gift in mind for the couple: “Balloon Venus by Jeff Koons would be a perfect gift in terms of shape,” this relating to his favourite bright pink sculpture.
The catering
This is the best rumour yet. Burger King have offered their services for catering the wedding after Kanye supposedly gave his fiancée 10 Burger King branches as a future wedding gift.
The ceremony There are some details about the ceremony that have emerged. Kim is reportedly planning to carry North down the aisle. Her father, Robert Kardashian Sr died several years ago, so it’s believed that her stepfather Bruce Jenner will be giving her away. If North is joining her down the aisle, though, Bruce may not be needed.
The coverage
TV network E! is planning on airing Kim and Kanye’s wedding as a two-part special. This isn’t the first broadcasted wedding for the bride as her 2011 wedding to NBA star Kris Humphries was also on TV. We all know that didn’t end well, so let’s hope filming doesn’t interfere with the big day.
The pre-nuptial agreement
A celebrity-fuelled wedding usually comes with a pre-nup. Kanye is one of the most successful rappers in the world and Kim has her legacy to protect. Some of the likely details of their pre-nup have been announced.
“For every year Kim is married to Kanye, she will get $1 million, capped at $10 million, the title of their Bel Air mansion will be in Kim’s name. Money she earns from Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the Kardashian clothing line, and promotional appearances, will be considered her separate and sole income,” said one insider.
The issues
It’s a nice idea to elope but maybe they should have done their research before the wedding got so close. According to various statutes in France, at least one of the couple has to have resided in France for at least 40 days prior to the wedding.
Luckily Kanye does have an apartment in Paris but he doesn’t live there full-time. A further French law also dictates that there be two wedding ceremonies. This will definitely be a newsworthy event if it’s all true!
