Fresh Outbreak of Polio reported in Taraba

SAAYOR Village, Sendirde Ward in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State has recorded a fresh outbreak of polio in the community.
This is the second case of poliomyelitis recorded in the local government after four years of the virus-free status in the state.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the first case was recorded in Dissol, Wuryo Ward in 2012.
The current outbreak is said to be the most dangerous and has already paralysed over eight children in the community.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, the executive chairman of the local government, Alhaji Takura Bashir, expressed worried over the the new outbreak of polio in the local government, saying that immunisation officials had already visited the affected areas to assess as well as to immunise all children bellow the age of five to zero months in the area.
He blamed the outbreak on the immunisation supervisors and focal officers in the local government for their inability to carry out proper supervision.
Nigerian Tribune recalled that the acting governor of the state, Alhaji Garba Umar, recently launched the 2013 second round immunisation days in Mutun-Biyu, the headquarters of Gassol Local Government Area, where he charged the council chairmen and traditional rulers to handle immunisation with all seriousness.
