Wenger will extend his contract with Arsenal, according to the club’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

Wenger, who is only second to retired Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in terms of the number of Premier League matches managed (660 and counting), is in the final 12 months of his current contract at the north London club.

“Arsene will be extending [his stay] with us and at the right time we will make that announcement,” Gazidis said.

The 64-year-old Frenchman became Arsenal manager in 1996.

Under his tutelage, the club has lifted three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and four Community Shields.

They last won a major domestic trophy in 2005 (the FA Cup), but are in contention for the league title in the ongoing campaign, sitting at the top of the log with 51 points from 22 games- one point ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

“This football club is the football club of his life,” Gazidis tells Sky Sports News.

The Gunners also line up two top of the bill encounter with Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the next round of the FA Cup and the European Champions League.

Arsenal will play Liverpool and Manchester United in the league, host the Anfield Club in the FA Cup before playing against current European champions within twelve days in February.

“We are very convinced, and at the right time we will quietly make an announcement that he is the right person to see us forward,” Gazidis stressed.

Arsenal CEO made this announcement on the same day the club revealed a new multi-million pound kit manufacturing deal with German company Puma.
